American EV with over 1,000 hp
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is the stage on which the American Mullen Automotive presents its latest model. Meet the Mullen Five RS: a more than 1,000 hp strong EV with which Mullen aims at fellow countryman Tesla Model S Plaid.
Mullen Automotive is an American company that mainly brings cars from Chinese manufacturers to the United States under its own name. Mullen – which recently acquired a majority stake in the troubled Bollinger – presented a very strong electric newcomer during the CES: the Five RS.
Mullen Five RS
The Mullen Five RS is a fiercely sporty top version of the Five (photos 16, 17 and 18) that the company previously presented. However, the appearance of that Five has been considerably modified. The Five RS is not only packed with heavy spoiler and bumper work, but also has a completely different front and rear. The colossus has more than 1,000 hp and should be able to zoom from a standstill to a speed of 97 km/h (60 mph) in less than two seconds. Its top speed: over 320 km/h. The Five RS has 800 volt on-board voltage, a 100 kWh battery pack and a two-speed transmission. According to Mullen, the Five RS is “redefining what an American EV can be.” Don’t let Elon Musk hear it.
The Five RS should be able to be calmed down properly again by carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo. According to Mullen, the car is stuffed with one Ultra-Performance Race Track Mode and – after all, it is 2024 – an artificial intelligence-based digital assistant to have extensive conversations. The Five RS is 4.9 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.94 meters. The car weight: 2,300 kilos. The electric range should be about 485 kilometers.
The Mullen Five – the less intense version – should be on the American market within the next two years. The Five RS is scheduled for late 2025. Several previously presented projects from Mullen Automotive never came to market. The question is whether the Five and Five RS will really come. In any case, the Five RS will not be a bargain. It should cost at least around €270,000.
