Since the Ténéré 700, everyone suddenly seems to be throwing themselves into the segment of tough Adventure bikes. This includes MV Agusta, which will be unveiling not one, but even two new models under the name “Lucky Explorer” at the EICMA in Milan next week.
In case the Lucky Explorer logo sounds familiar: it is indeed the exact same logo that was proudly on the tank of the 1991 Cagiva Elefant 900ie Lucky Explorer, the replica of the Lucky Strike-sponsored Rally machine that Cagiva used in the late 1980s. of the last century had been successful in the infamous Paris-Dakar rally.
The Elefant 900ie was powered by the 904 cc air-cooled desmodromic two-valve L-twin from Ducati, which, like Moto Morini and Husqvarna, was part of the Cagiva group. In 1991 Cagiva also bought the trademark rights of MV Agusta.
In 1996, Cagiva accepted an offer from the Texas Investment Group and sold Ducati and Moto Morini. For strategic reasons, the company was subsequently restructured and MV Agusta Motor became the main brand, with Cagiva and Husqvarna now as subsidiaries.
This explains the link between MV Agusta and the Lucky Explorer. Add to that the fact that Dual Purpose motorcycles are growing in popularity and that they also want a piece of that pie at MV and the MV Agusta Lucky Explorer project has also been declared.
What do we know about the Lucky Explorer project. Not much really, except that MV’s CEO Timur Sardarov said a while ago that a future ADV would be equipped with a new 950cc three-cylinder. MV has now launched a new website for that – www.luckyexplorerproject.com – for fans to come together and create a global community.
“I am excited about the launch of this very special project. The Lucky Explorer concept is not just about cycling, it is about an expansive world of emotions, memories, values and a way of being. A long-awaited return for all Made-in-Schiranna fans, but also a new beginning and a leap into the future: wherever life takes us, we know where we come from.”
Both models will be available for reservation on the above website from November 23, two days later the curtain will be lifted at the EICMA.
