The iPhone 16 Pro Max may sound like an easy choice for Apple product of the year. After all, it is the very best iPhone that Apple has made to date. But the faster chip, the new camera controller or the improved ultra-wide-angle lens are not the main reasons that the Pro Max became my choice.

Don’t get me wrong: the new functions and features are all great improvements. But there is another new feature that has made the iPhone 16 Pro Max my Apple product of the year. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is bigger than ever this year.

It’s not much bigger, but it’s a good start. The iPhone 15 Pro Max had a 6.7-inch screen. With the iPhone 16 Pro Max this is now 6.9 inches. You don’t immediately notice this when you take it out of the box for the first time. But if you’re really going to use the iPhone, the extra screen space is certainly welcome.

I’ve secretly wanted a bigger iPhone for years. But yes, I think the largest iPhone in the world is just a bit too much. A good compromise would be an iPhone the size of an iPad mini.

I have also really considered using an iPad mini as an iPhone replacement. But no matter how much I would like it, an iPad (mini) simply does not have all the functions of an iPhone at the moment. For example, there is still no WhatsApp app on the tablet and the iPhone’s camera is of course also much better.

According to the latest rumors, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have the same dimensions as the iPhone 16 Pro Max. So it looks like Apple isn’t going to make the Pro Max bigger again. That’s a shame, but the beginning is with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

In addition, a foldable iPhone that you can unfold the size of an iPad would also be a great solution. But according to the latest rumors, that will still take a few years. Anyway, Apple is moving in the right direction with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
