My heart rate was measured during the science party and is 83. What does this mean? Is this good?

Answer

Hi Yasmine,

The heart is a hollow muscle that pumps blood throughout the body by contracting its powerful muscle. The heart rate is the pumping movement that your heart makes and is expressed in a number, so for you 83. These are the number of heartbeats per minute. So your heart was beating (pumping) at the time of the measurement 83 times per minute.
You can easily repeat that measurement yourself by measuring your pulse (pulse for short). Place the fingertips on the inside of the wrist (towards the thumbs, between tendons and bones) and measure how much you feel your heartbeat per minute.
