Net profit Kia sharply down in the first six months

Kia turned 66 percent less profit in the first six months of this year. The South Korean brand recorded a net profit of 392.3 billion won, or € 280.5 million. Turnover and sales also declined, the group announced on Friday.

Through June, Kia sold more than 1.16 million vehicles worldwide, down 15.4 percent from the same period a year earlier. Sales dropped 3.8 percent to 25.94 trillion won.

Kia was particularly affected by declining sales outside Korea, as 14.6 percent more vehicles were sold in the home market. The number of registrations in the rest of the world fell by 21.8 percent to 886,448 units.

The performance during the second quarter, which incorporates the effects of the corona crisis, depressed Kia’s half-year results. The total number of registrations fell between April and June by 27.8 percent to 515,050 units. The quarterly profit fell by 75 percent to 126.3 billion won.

Kia is doing well this year in the Netherlands. Until June, the brand sold 13,662 passenger cars in our country, which ranks second in the sales rankings behind Volkswagen. The Kia Niro is the best-selling model in the Netherlands.
