Netflix is likely to get commercials. The video streaming service will show videos before your favorite series or movie starts. You can expect these Netflix commercials.
Netflix commercials
It was of course to come: Netflix will show commercials. Yet it is not as bad as it sounds. Although the 30-second commercials will run before you are allowed to watch your favorite series or movie, these are not videos for other products. The pre-roll ads are for series and movies from Netflix itself, which the service thinks you will like.
Netflix tries to promote its own shows in various ways. Among other things, via trailers and large images on the homepage of his website. The commercials are the latest way to bring these series and movies to the attention of users. While nobody is waiting for thirty seconds of House of Cards when you just start up the latest episode of Orange is the New Black, things can get worse.
Netflix hasn’t officially announced the commercials yet, but it is testing the videos with users. Netflix has confirmed this test opposite TechCrunch. “If we don’t test, we don’t learn and we will never get better,” said a spokesperson.
It is not yet certain whether the commercials, or previews as Netflix calls them, will roll out widely later. The company has already run similar tests and tried other forms of promotion. Still, it turns out that video works best for luring users. According to Netflix, such previews ensure that users spend less time browsing through the offer and watching video.
In any case, Netflix isn’t the only one with such ads for its videos. Most other streaming services also have advertisements, often for other products. I prefer videos of series and films that Netflix thinks I like.
