Also as a plug-in hybrid
Skoda will soon be pulling the curtains on the completely new Kodiaq. Before the new Skoda Kodiaq is officially presented, the Czechs present us with a set of drawings of the exterior of the new SUV.
In the run-up to the unveiling of the brand new second generation Skoda Kodiaq on October 4, Skoda is releasing another set of design sketches of its new SUV. The new Skoda Kodiaq – the interior of which was already shown earlier – will be on the MQB platform, just like the outgoing model, and in terms of design, the new Kodiaq also builds on what you already know about the model in broad terms.
The new Skoda Kodiaq, just like its predecessor – and every other tall Skoda – has a front with lighting spread over two floors. The apparently more upright grille is flanked by wide flat units with smaller light units underneath. Especially viewed from the front, the new Kodiaq is quite recognizable as a Kodiaq. More changes are happening at the rear. Once again, there is a strong fold above the license plate across the width of the tailgate, but from now on it is straight and is no longer interrupted by the shape of the taillights. The new rear lights are C-shaped and are therefore an enhanced expression of the C-shaped light signature that you already found in the rear lights of the outgoing model. You will no longer find a Skoda badge between the rear lights. From now on, the brand name will be written out.
Although the new Kodiaq, like its predecessor, is on the MQB platform, there is also big engine news. Unlike cars such as the Octavia and Superb, the Skoda Kodiaq was not previously available with a plug, but will soon have plug-in hybrid technology available for the first time. The Skoda Kodiaq 1.5 TSI iV will have a 204 hp powertrain and a 25.7 kWh battery that should enable an electric range of more than 100 kilometers. There will also be mild-hybrid versions. The new Skoda Kodiaq will be 4.76 meters long, increasing in length by six centimeters compared to the outgoing generation. These extra centimeters provide the SUV with, among other things, a larger luggage space. In the new Kodiaq you can carry 75 liters more (910 litres) more than in its predecessor.
About 16,250 units of the current Skoda Kodiaq have been delivered since its Dutch market introduction in 2017. The registration counter for the first eight months of this year is 2,497 units. By the way, there is more Skoda news in the pipeline. The brand will soon be launching a new generation of Superb.
