New Apple Pencil also works with the Apple Vision Pro

The current Apple Pencil only works on iPads. But according to rumors, a new version of the Pencil can be used with the Apple Vision Pro.

New Apple Pencil works on Vision Pro

Apple has started testing an Apple Pencil that works with the Apple Vision Pro. This would mean that you will soon be able to use the Pencil in drawing programs such as Pixelmator on Apple’s VR/AR glasses.

Not many details are known, but you can use the Apple Pencil to draw on your table. The drawing can then be seen in the open app on the Apple Vision Pro. This would mean that you can soon use any surface as your canvas. Of course, the pressure sensitivity and tilt sensor in the pen also works.

According to rumors, a new Apple Pencil 3 may be coming soon, along with the release of the new iPads. But it is not yet known whether the Pencil has support for visionOS, the operating system of the Apple Vision Pro.

So that a future pen will work with the Vision Pro, the glasses will also need an update first. The beta of visionOS 1.2 is coming and visionOS 2 will likely be introduced during WWDC in June. A release will be sometime towards the end of the year.

Of course, it is not yet certain that Apple will provide Vision Pro with support for the Apple Pencil. But we do think that if they don’t do it, it will be a missed opportunity. Whatever Apple decides, we’ll have to wait a little longer here. The Apple Vision Pro is not even officially for sale in the Netherlands at the moment. When exactly that will happen remains a mystery.
