If we are to believe Apple analyst Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new Apple TV with an improved chip. This new chip in the Apple TV can be used for playing games.
“Games on Apple TV”
While we saw a new version of the Apple TV last year, it looks like we’ll be getting another update soon. According to the Power-On newsletter from reliable Apple analyst Mark Gurman, the Apple TV gets a better chip.
‘A14 chip in Apple TV has 4GB of RAM’
Gurman thinks that we will soon get a new Apple TV with an A14 chip and 4 GB of RAM. We already know these specifications from the A12 chip that was announced last year as part of the Apple TV from 2021. The big difference? The A14 chip can handle heavier graphics tasks and is 30 percent more powerful than its predecessor.
This would mean that you will soon be able to use the Apple TV for playing games. We still know the A12 chip of the current Apple TV from the iPhone XS. The A14 chip is in the iPhone 12. With this smartphone, the graphics power of the chip is mainly used when taking photos.
Apple TV with new chip made for tvOS 16
We would see quite the option to play some more games on our Apple products. The tvOS 16 operating system also hinted at playing games on your Apple TV. It would expand support for game controllers at the end of 2022.
In addition, there will be user profiles on the Apple TV. This innovation is also ideal for saving the progress of a game for several users.
We’ve been hearing for a few years now that the Apple TV with a new chip will focus more on playing games. For example, we already saw a patent in 2018, after which we concluded that games are the next logical step for Apple. A while back we heard from another reliable Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, also information about a new and cheaper Apple TV.
Won’t there be a HomePod TV for games?
A few months ago, Gurman talked about a mix of two products: the HomePod TV. As you may have guessed, it is a cross between a HomePod (mini) and an Apple TV. This should be Apple’s new multimedia device with TV, audio and even FaceTime.
These rumors make it seem like we’ll have to wait a little longer for the HomePod TV. In any case, we are already very enthusiastic about the (hopefully) new features of the Apple TV. You too? Let us know!
