The recently unveiled Aston Martin DB12, in fact a heavily facelifted DB11, will of course also be available as an open Volante with a fabric roof. That car is already rolling past in camouflaged form.

It is sometimes more exciting to peer ‘through the camouflage’ to see what an as yet unrevealed car will look like. This time in front of the spy photographer’s lens: the Aston Martin DB12 Volante, the convertible version of the just unveiled Aston Martin DB12. That car is broadly the same as predecessor DB11, but got a different front, different side skirts and a new interior and loses its V12 option. But whether the transition from DB12 to DB12 Volante also shows differences with the transition from DB11 to DB11 Volante? It doesn’t look like it. Still: the fact that there will be an open variant again is already worth a look.

From the side, the buttock height of the now-spotted open Aston Martin DB12 is similar to that of the DB11, and we therefore suspect that the roof construction and the mechanics for opening and closing are very similar – as is the rest of the basic architecture of the car. It should be clear that the DB12 Volante, just like the DB11, will have a fabric roof, which in the case of the DB11 can be folded within 14 seconds at a speed of up to 50 km/h.

Whether the convertible conversion of the DB12 is actually 1-to-1 the same as that of the DB11 remains to be seen. We learn that during the unveiling of the Aston Martin DB12 Volante. In the case of the DB11 Volante, it took place about a year after the reveal of the closed version, so if that’s also the same, you know how long you have to wait.

From this angle, the DB12 Volante is likely to closely resemble its predecessor pictured here.
