New Bentley Continental GT becomes almost 800 hp plug-in hybrid

Bentley has only just announced the V8 Hybrid powertrains that will replace the mighty 6.0 W12 and it is already looking ahead to the first car in which that machine will be used: the Continental GT. The new Bentley Continental GT promises to be lightning fast, but it will also arrive soon!

Earlier this month, Bentley announced the arrival of the V8 Hybrid plug-in hybrid powertrain with which it will replace the 6.0 W12. The brand new fourth generation of the Bentley Continental GT will be the first car to feature these machines. That promises a lot, the Bentley Continental GT with V8 Hybrid hardware will be the strongest street-legal Bentley ever.

That title currently belongs to the 760 hp and 1,000 Nm strong Batur, but the new Continental GT V8 Hybrid will soon take it. According to Bentley, it will produce 782 hp and 1,000 Nm. Unlike that of cars like the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance, the plug-in hybrid part of the drivetrain is not only aimed at boosting power. The new Continental GT must be able to drive up to 80 kilometers electrically.

Bentley Bacalar

The new Bentley Continental GT gets design influences from this Bacalar.

In keeping with Continental GT tradition, the fourth generation is broadly similar to its predecessors. However, in the design we encounter enormous design influences from the Bacalar and that means that Bentley is elaborating on the design of this EXP 100 GT. Just look at the headlights with the running indicators and the shape of the taillights. The Continental GT, which will replace the current model presented in 2018, will of course again have four-wheel drive, but also features such as four-wheel steering, an electronic limited-slip differential and active anti-roll stabilization that runs on a 48v electrical system. The Continental GT also gets active dampers with double valves.

Since the introduction of the first Continental GT in 2002, Bentley has sold almost 100,000 units over several generations. The brand expects to assemble the 100,000th copy early next year in its Dream Factory factory in Crewe, England. Bentley will be pulling the curtains on the new coupe as early as June. Will there be an open GTC again? We expect it.
