The current BMW 3-series is now almost three years old and that means that it will soon be time for what BMW calls the Life Cycle Impulse (LCI). So a facelift. Both the sedan and the Touring are being renewed and today we have the latter in view for the first time.
At least, for the first time … BMW is introducing an M3 Touring for the first time and we have already been able to show you that blasting station several times. These photos show the facelifted 3-series Touring in a quieter outfit. The 3-series is not going to be terribly different.
BMW 3 Series
It seems that BMW is limiting the external adjustments to the light units and the bumper work. A minuscule bite has been taken from the headlights and they get a new light signature, with the daytime running lights now housed in the top of the headlight. Anyone who still gets a heart attack from the grilles that BMW mounts on the front of cars like the 4-series and iX can continue to breathe easy. The front fencing on the revised 3 Series doesn’t get as intense as on those cars.
Under the skin, more changes. Mild-hybrid powertrains are not yet commonplace with the 3-series. In fact, only the M340i and the diesel engines have electric assistance. We aim for BMW to expand the number of mild-hybrid petrol engines. In addition, BMW is modernizing the infotainment of the dreier, BMW has not been idle in this area in recent years. Will there also be an electric 3-series? That cannot be ruled out, after all, an electric 3-series sedan has already been spotted, a car that would be called i3 according to BMW’s naming strategy.
