New BMW 5-series Touring is already on the road as a police car

The brand new BMW 5-series is currently only available as a sedan, but of course there will also be a station wagon version. That BMW 5-series Touring has now appeared on screen in a very special disguise.

Perhaps BMW was afraid that we would not be interested enough in a test sample of the new 5-series Touring if it only had regular camouflage stickers on it. An unjustified fear, but this certainly attracts even more attention. This BMW 5-series Touring already pretends to be a German police car. It even has flashing lights, although of course it is lacking policestickers and other adhesives. Of course, you cannot simply create the expectation that there will be emergency services in the car.

In any case, what the ‘police suit’ also does is distract from where there is really something interesting to see. After all, it all happens at the rear, we already know the nose. Unfortunately for BMW, we secretly also know the rear, because AutoWeek was already able to show the new BMW 5-series Touring in patent images at the beginning of October. It is clear that the Touring has slightly different rear lights than the sedan, with more pronounced angles at the ends. It was also noticeable that the 5-series Touring has a rising window line towards the rear more than its predecessors.

BMW 5 Series Touring patent

The new BMW 5-series Touring previously appeared on a patent image.

Here we see a BMW 5-series Touring with an undoubtedly partly electrified drivetrain, but of course there will also be a fully electric version. The BMW i5 Touring, that is. There is also good news for lovers of pure horsepower: for the first time since the E60 (2004-2010), there will be an M5 Touring. That will be a plug-in hybrid, with almost certainly a V8 as the beating heart and well beyond 600 hp. We expect the unveiling of the new BMW 5-series Touring and i5 Touring in the spring.
