Spyshots BMW 5 Series Touring

2023 will be the year in which BMW pushes forward a completely new generation of the 5 Series. We have already seen the new BMW 5 Series in several versions, but the new BMW 5 Series Touring has remained out of the picture until now. Until today!

BMW will introduce a completely new generation of the 5 Series in 2023. This new 5-series has already passed the lens of our spy photographer in several variants in a packed test suit. For example, we have not only seen relatively conventional copies, but also an electric i5 and even the new M5. Now we can show you the new 5 Series Touring for the first time.

While crossovers and SUVs seem to be driving consumers away from the traditional station wagon, pack mules in the segment of cars such as the Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series remain important. It is therefore not surprising that the new E-class will also be available as an Estate and Audi will even introduce the electric equivalent of the A6 as an Avant. BMW also comes with a 5-series Touring again, as these photos of a packed test sample prove. Although BMW remains faithful to the well-known Touring concept with the new 5-series Touring, something seems to be changing. For example, the new 5-series Touring gets a more steeply rising shoulder line than the current model and the roof line seems to dip slightly earlier. Like the new 5 Series sedan, the 5 Series Touring has door handles that are partially recessed into the doors.

As mentioned, the new 5-series sedan will have an electric version that will be called i5. Whether the BMW 5-series Touring will also have an electric version? It could be, but it is unlikely that we see evidence of it in these photos. BMW has put stickers on the car indicating that it is an electrified vehicle. So no fully electric variant. The previously snapped BMW i5 had a sticker that specifically stated that it was a fully electric test vehicle. The closed grille seems to indicate an electric powertrain from a distance, but if you look closely, you will see that it is a semi-closed kidney grille with active slats as we already saw on the packed M5. The new M5 will be a plug-in hybrid and it seems very likely that this test model also has a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
