The new BMW 7-series is expected to arrive later this year. Prototypes of both the 7-series and the electric i7 have already been spotted several times, but with this prototype, BMW removed part of the camouflage at the front.
That does not mean that the final design of the new 7-series is immediately very visible. Where the front bumper was still well covered in prototypes identified earlier, this is less the case with this test car. Underneath the well-packaged ‘kidneys’ is an air inlet divided by five vertical bars. Small intakes can still be seen below the headlights on either side of the bumper. In addition, there seems to be a line with a kink from under the headlights towards the air intake under the front bumper. All these style elements reveal a little more of the puzzle, but it is not yet very clear.
What is clear is that the latest 7-series will have a quirky face that is somewhat reminiscent of the 8-series of yesteryear. BMW did not remove any camouflage from the back of this prototype compared to previous prototypes, so we can’t say a lot about it yet. The shape of the tailpipe trims, which were also seen earlier, is somewhat striking. The decorative pieces consist of four hexagons that are connected in the middle. As is often the case these days, it is really just about the decoration: behind the decorative pieces, two round pipes are visible.
Electric brother
The new 7-series is planned for later this year. BMW uses a similar strategy as with the i4 and the 4-series Gran Coupé, because the electric i7 will have the same body as the regular Siebener. This means that Bavaria deviates from the approach in Stuttgart: Mercedes-Benz clearly sets the S-class and the EQS apart from each other.
