Because of the EV violence that car manufacturers unleash on car land these days, you would almost forget that there are also cars with combustion engines. In that category, BMW this year with a real hit: the BMW M2 Coupé. A new set of spy photos shows that absolute king of the 2 Series family better than ever.

The BMW 2-series Coupé is a stubborn model within the 2-series family. Where the 2-Series Gran Coupé and 2-Series Tourer are front-wheel drive, the new 2-Series Coupé is coolly a rear-wheel drive thanks to a completely different platform derived from the 3-Series. The 2-series Coupé is already available with relatively modest petrol and diesel machines, but there is also an M Performance stunner with a 374 hp and 500 Nm strong 3.0 six-in-line. That M240i xDrive will be downgraded to sub-topper in July this year. That is the month in which BMW unleashes the mighty M2 Coupé that you see in these photos.

With the now discontinued M2 Coupé and its derivatives still freshly etched in the memory, the new M2 Coupé promises to be a true masterpiece. The previous M2 Coupé started its existence with 370 hp 3.0 in-line six, although that would certainly not remain the only variant. In 2018 BMW introduced the six-in-line six from the previous generation M3 and M4 in the Competition version, an extra hard and lighter version of the M2 Coupé that treated its owner to 411 hp and 550 Nm. BMW proved that it could be even more intense with the M2 CS, a variant that received the power station of the M4 Competition and with it no less than 450 hp.

The new M2 Coupé will probably deliver about 410 to 450 hp in ‘basic trim’. The current M3 and M4 are 480 hp strong and stomp as much as 510 hp to the asphalt like Competition, but those capacities seem a bit on the heavy side for the non-Competition and CS versions of the M2 Coupé. The new BMW M2 Coupé will make its public debut in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Incidentally, BMW has more M-news in the barrel. That’s how it comes this year for the first time with an M3 Touring!
