New Citroën C5 ready for debut

Citroën will soon be pulling the curtain on the new C5, which takes a completely different approach than its predecessor. That the youngest C5 is an eccentric, is clear from a teaser video that Citroën has sent out into the world through its social channels.

The Citroën C5 has long had to do without a direct successor in Europe. Of course, Citroën has had the C5 Aircross in its range since 2019, but soon the brand will bring a full-fledged new D-segmenter on the market that, more than that SUV, will follow in the footsteps of its predecessors. Earlier spy records showed that Citroën is choosing a special path. It seems to be a true jack of all trades. The C5 will be a long, high-legged liftback, which of course is also topped with a stubborn Citroën sauce.

That the Citroën garnish predominates in the C5 recipe, is evident from a teaser video released by the French. Just like the nC4, the C5 gets a pronounced front with strikingly placed LED lighting and, just like the C4, it is the rear where Citroën shows itself from its most idiosyncratic side. The rear lights somewhat follow the shape of the front ones. In addition, the sloping butt of the C5 gets a striking C-style, complete with a jolly print and a chrome strip. The rear window is, as if it were a hamburger, between two sandwiches. There is a rear spoiler both below and above.

The overall shape of the new C5 is inspired by the warmly received CXperience Concept that debuted in 2016. That car paid homage to the Citroën CX with its lines, hence the name. Underneath the idiosyncratic C5 body is undoubtedly a further development of the EMP2 platform, the basis that is used by the aforementioned C5 Aircross, but also by the Peugeot 3008, 5008 and the new 308 and DS 4. Don’t look crazy when the new Citroën C5, like those models, becomes available with one or more plug-in hybrid powertrains. We’ll know more next week, when the C5 will make its public debut.
