An update is coming soon! Apple has released new firmware for the AirPods. This is how you install the latest update for the AirPods Pro 2.
Update for the AirPods Pro 2
Apple regularly releases new updates for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, but the AirPods are also updated every now and then. A new update will soon be available for the AirPods Pro 2. It is not (yet) known which new features or changes will be implemented in the update. Typically, Apple does not announce this or only announces it much later.

This is currently a test version of the firmware, which is only available to developers. In any case, we know that a new update is coming for the AirPods Pro 2, which will soon be available for everyone to install. To do this, you need to know how to ensure that the earphones are updated. We’ll tell you how to install the latest update!
This is how you install the latest firmware
In principle, you don’t have to do anything to install the latest firmware on your AirPods. The AirPods will update automatically when they are in the case and near your iPhone. To ensure that the update is installed, you can place the charging case on the charger. Do you want to check what the latest update is for your AirPods Pro 2? This is how you can see which firmware the earphones are running on:
- Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone or iPad;
- Go to ‘Bluetooth’;
- Tap the information button behind your AirPods;
- Scroll down to ‘About’;
- You will then see the most recent update of your AirPods behind ‘Version’.
The last firmware that Apple released is version 6B34. That update for the AirPods Pro 2 appeared in December. Now the first test version of version 6E188 has been released for developers. It is expected that the public update will follow soon, so that your earphones will soon be updated automatically. Do you see version 6E188 in the information for your AirPods? In that case the update has been installed.
New functions (still) unclear
So we don’t yet know exactly which new features will come to the earphones. It is expected that Apple will make small improvements, because the AirPods Pro 2 already received a major update this year with iOS 17. Then Apple introduced new features such as call detection, adaptive audio and personalized volume. All these features have already been released, so we will probably only see major changes after iOS 18.

For the time being, there will only be an update to the AirPods Pro 2, both the version with USB-C and the version with Lightning will receive the new firmware. It is still unclear whether the first generation AirPods Pro and the ‘normal’ AirPods will also receive new firmware. Are you still looking for new earphones and planning to buy the AirPods Pro 2?
