With all the news about the Ford Mustang Mach-E in recent years, you would almost forget that the real Mustang is still there. It fades a bit into the background because of its age, but now the next generation has emerged.

Strictly speaking, the headline above this article is not quite right. After all, the brand new seventh generation of the Ford Mustang first appeared almost a year ago. There is a very big caveat to this: that was a so-called ‘mule’, so with the coach of the current eight-year-old Mustang on it. However, now for the first time we have pictures of the real thing.

As would be expected at this stage of the testing, Ford is painstakingly hiding the details under a thick camouflage jacket. Still, it’s clear to see that the next Mustang simply continues the retro line we’ve known from the model since 2005. You probably don’t have to worry about the next Mustang breaking with the past for that matter. It does seem like the Mustang is growing a bit, although that is still a bit difficult to make.

In any case, fans of petrol violence can also breathe easy. The Mustang will not be an EV, probably a hybrid at most. Even better news: the V8 can also stay. An eight-cylinder rumble has already been heard on a driving prototype. What becomes even more exciting is whether he always does the work all by himself. A powertrain in which the V8 works with two electric motors (on the rear wheels) would be in the offing. A fantastic four-wheel drive Mustang, no punishment, right? The V6 will undoubtedly remain, but it remains to be seen whether the four-cylinder engine will return. That would certainly not be a bad choice in view of the European market. We expect the unveiling of the new Mustang at the earliest at the end of this year.
