The new Ford Ranger down to the smallest nut also gets an ultimate tastemaker. We are already digitally acquainted with the new Ranger Raptor, a rugged but sporty top version that has to relegate its already not tender predecessor to a wallflower.
Ford Performance has in the dusty outback of Australia has been busy working on a new Raptor version of the new Ranger presented last year in recent months. Anyone who is a little familiar with the Ford range knows that the Raptor version guarantees extra spectacle. The previous generation Ranger Raptor had a 213 hp 2.0 liter biturbo diesel engine in the Netherlands, but with the new Ranger Raptor, Ford is taking a different tack.
The new Ranger Raptor will be available in the Netherlands with a 3.o V6, a petrol engine with two turbos that releases no less than 288 hp and 491 Nm on all four wheels. We already know this power station from the Explorer ST, which is not available here, and will also be given a place in Bronco Raptor. The fact that Ford can’t wait to actually make the more than 400 hp available is evidenced by the fact that the Ranger Raptor is the first version of the new Ranger that will be delivered in Europe. The new Ford Ranger Raptor will come to Europe around the end of the summer, the regular versions of the new Ranger will follow next year. Incidentally, the Ranger Raptor will also be available in various markets with the 213 hp twin-turbo diesel engine of the previous model.
With its completely new powertrain for the Ranger, the ultimate sports version of the pick-up can of course get along quite well. To illustrate what the car is capable of: according to Ford, the new Ranger Raptor is just a minute faster than its predecessor on its 10-kilometer test track in Australia. Ford promises hot hatch-like performance on unpaved roads, so it’s no surprise that Ford has thoroughly modified the Raptor to live up to that promise.
The new Ford Ranger Raptor now has a differential that can ‘close’ completely not only at the rear, but also at the front. They are electronic diff locks, the previous Ranger Raptor had a mechanical one behind. The sniffed pick-up has a ten-speed automatic transmission and has seven driving modes. Normal, Sport, Slippery, Rock Crawl, Sand, Mud/Ruts and Baja. In the latter driving mode, all brakes are released and the turbos continue to purge for up to three seconds after the gas is released, so that the Ranger reacts faster when you press the accelerator again.
