Honda has not yet celebrated Max Verstappen’s world title when it is already busy with another crack nose: the Civic Type R. The sporty top version of the new Civic is being tested on Suzuka.
Honda may withdraw from Formula 1, that does not mean that it is putting all sporting aspirations aside. On the contrary: it is working on a brand new Civic Type R. It was also recently spotted in Europe, but now Honda is serving us some photos of test work in its home country Japan. To be precise, the Civic Type R does its laps around the Suzuka circuit.
Unfortunately for us, the ladies and gentlemen of the camouflage department have been no less enthusiastic than in October. The Type R is therefore still firmly packed, although the main features that distinguish it from the regular new Civic hatchback are not to be missed. For example, the Civic Type R gets thicker bumper work and a rear spoiler that you can’t ignore. There are also three exhaust tips hidden in a diffuser at the bottom of the rear bumper, the middle one a fraction larger than the other two.
All in all, the new Honda Civic Type R looks a lot less extravagant than its predecessor. However, that does not mean that the car is also a bit more modest to drive. We again expect an at least 320 hp blown 2.0 four-cylinder, which distributes the power to the front wheels via a differential lock. Next year, the new Civic and this Civic Type R will make its appearance in Europe. It remains to be seen whether we will also find the Type R, which is undoubtedly subject to a hefty bpm amount, on the price list in the Netherlands.
