New Honda HR-V becomes coupé-SUV

About five years after the launch of the current HR-V, it is time for a successor. The new Honda HR-V promises to be a lot more exciting than the compact crossover that you can still find at Honda dealers.

Launched in 2015 in Europe, the Honda HR-V, a car that started its life a year earlier as Vezel, was subtly modernized in 2018. The HR-V has never received an extensive facelift and it does not look like it will happen again. The HR-V is being followed up in a new second generation of which Techzle can now show you the first photos.

The second generation HR-V in these photos is still quite in the sticker, although there is enough to say about the appearance of the Captur competitor. It is immediately noticeable that the HR-V gets a completely different line in addition to a higher nose. The rear window is much flatter than that of the current model. Honda therefore chooses to give the new HR-V a more ‘Coupé-SUV’-like shape. The compact crossover also gets relatively flat headlight units. The whole is very reminiscent of the muzzle of the Honda SUV presented last year: e Concept. The Honda SUV: e concept was a preview of the brand’s new electric SUV. The fact that the HR-V in these photos has a visible working exhaust pipe, obviously indicates that this is not an EV.

What will power the new HR-V is not officially known. However, it is very obvious that Honda will give the HR-V the e: HEV powertrain of the new Jazz. In terms of dimensions, it grows a few centimeters compared to the current model. We expect an official reveal later this year.

The HR-V is not a huge success in the Netherlands. Since the re-introduction of the model name in 2015, less than 2,000 HR-Vs have been sold in our country. Only in 2016 (587 units) did the car’s sales figures exceed 500 units. In 2017, 2018 and 2019, 389, 308 and 307 HR-Vs were successively sold. Last year, sales fell to 223 units.
