New design and digitization of the interior
Hyundai i20
Hyundai presents the new i20! The compact model has a whole new design, with sharp lines and a huge grille. The brand throws all modesty overboard.
We already know the Hyundai i20 a capable, practical car without fuss. The latter is no longer applicable with the new i20. The design has been completely renewed and drawn with sharp lines. A huge grille, strikingly shaped rear lights and a triangular third side window are the most striking elements. The proportions of the car changed with it. The new i20 is about the same length as the outgoing model, but the wheelbase has grown a little. Furthermore, the new i20 is 3 centimeters wider and 2.4 centimeters lower.
Hyundai reports that the dashboard, in the most luxurious version, is dominated by two screens of 10.25 inch, which are stuck together optically seamlessly. We don’t know yet what that looks like, Hyundai is still releasing photos of the interior. Various car functions can be controlled remotely with an app. The trunk of the i20 has grown by 25 liters to 351 liters, a good value for a compact car.
New driving aids
The i20 is completely up-to-date in the area of driving assistance systems. Semi-autonomous driving is not yet possible, but the model does have electronics that intervene if the driver fails to do so, for example when crossing the road line or changing lanes while a car is driving in the blind spot. The radar in the i20 now also recognizes pedestrians and cyclists and the smart cruise control uses map data to adjust the speed.
Hyundai announces three engine versions for the i20. New is that the 120 hp version of the 1.0 T-GDI engine is equipped with mild hybrid technology, which ensures a fuel consumption up to 4 percent. This engine is also available with 100 hp, without electrical assistance. Hyundai also supplies a 1.2 petrol engine without a turbo and a power of 84 hp. An automatic gearbox is available on the 1.0 T-GDI with 100 hp and standard on the 120 hp variant.
The new i20 comes to the Netherlands in the third quarter of this year and will be presented at the Geneva motor show next month. The prices are not yet known.
