Now a real change of generation

Hyundai is working on a new generation of its largest SUV. At least, the largest SUV that the brand offers in Europe: the Santa Fe. In these spy photos, the new Hyundai Santa Fe was caught during test work in the icy high north of Europe.
The current fourth generation of the Hyundai Santa Fe is perhaps the most special. This mainly relates to the technology and to a very special metamorphosis that the car went through in that area. The fourth Hyundai Santa Fe debuted in 2018 and already went under the knife in 2020. But not just like that! The Korean simply switched platforms during that facelift. The SUV switched its Y7 base for the N3-called platform so that it could also handle hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. From the outside it did not change as much as you are used to with a platform change. But there is a Hyundai Santa Fe in the barrel with a completely new body. You see it for the first time in these spy photos.
The Hyundai Santa Fe after the 2020 facelift.
The new Hyundai Santa Fe – generation five – appears to have a much more angular design than the current model. We see angular windows, a high and apparently chunky nose and A-pillars that merge into the roof at a relatively sharp angle. It remains to be seen whether Hyundai puts the new Santa Fe on a different platform than the current model. The current N3 platform is – in a shorter form – also under the Hyundais Tucson, Sonata, Staria and Santa Cruz. All models that have not been around for very long.
A fully electric Hyundai Santa Fe is very unlikely to come. Hyundai has an electric SUV of a similar size separate from the Santa Fe. With the Seven Concept, the brand already gave a preview of this in 2021. That electric SUV will probably be called Ioniq 7.
Hyundai Santa Fe in the Netherlands
Since the market introduction of the first generation Santa Fe in 2000, Hyundai has delivered 15,592 units in the Netherlands over four generations. In 2006, the Santa Fe had its best sales year. At that time, almost 3,000 units were delivered in our country. The current Santa Fe is available as a five- and seven-seater and is available as a Hybrid and as a Plug-in Hybrid.
