This year Maserati pulls the curtain on a new GranTurismo down to the smallest nipple. The coupé was subjected to cold tests in the far north of Sweden. Luckily there are pictures of that!
Model names such as Mustang, Puma and Eclipse (Cross) are nowadays used for crossovers, but fortunately in car land some things remain the same. For example, the new Maserati GranTurismo will soon be a classically lined coupĂ© again. Although the test sample in these photos is still fanatically packed, the proportions of Maserati’s new sportsman are already clearly visible.
The youngest GranTurismo also gets a long nose and a relatively convex passenger compartment with a roofline that flows smoothly into the rear window and the tailgate. The GranTurismo is a real GT according to a traditional Italian recipe, so you don’t have to count on an abundance of folds, lines, holes and other loud elements. Speaking of design elements, a number of them can already be clearly discerned through the sticker work. Take the air vents running parallel to the side of the bonnet in the front fenders, the smoothed door handles, the taillights and the rather narrow elongated headlamps positioned high above the grille and following the line of the fenders. It reminds us somewhat of the way Ferrari designed the front of the 599 GTB Fiorano years ago. Of course, the characteristic Maserati grille with concave horizontal bars cannot be missed. In the black area in the middle of it, of course, will be the iconic trident of the brand.
The fact that the design of the GranTurismo appears to be a modern evolution of that of the previous model certainly does not mean that the GranTurismo is based on old traditions. The new Maserati GranTurismo will not only get powerful V6 or V8 petrol engines, but also an all-electric powertrain! Later this year we will know more about the sporty and elegant brother of the MC20, which is mainly based on sportsmanship. If Maserati keeps its promises, there will also be a GranCabrio next to the GranTurismo.
