The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class will of course again receive a series of sporty AMG derivatives. At the top are the C63 and C63 S, below that a milder but still quite potent ‘entry-level AMG’. That successor to the previous C43 4Matic has now been caught in camouflage costume.
The ink in the brochure of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class is hardly dry when we can already look ahead to the upcoming AMG versions. Those AMG flavors will get a four-cylinder anyway, also the C63 and C63 S positioned at the top of the AMG pecking order. The previous C-class had a milder AMG variant below, the C43 that actually started its life as C 450 Sport. The new C-class will also receive a similar one AMG Lightvariant, although the question is what that version will be called. This set of spy photos clearly shows the successor to the previous C43 AMG.
Mercedes-AMG C43 (previous model)
The sporty, packed C-class gives away its identity, among other things, with its exhaust pipes. There are two round exhaust tailpipes on either side of the rear bumper. The C43 AMG also had such exhaust pipes. The C63 and C63 S were also characterized by their four tailpipes, although those copies were more angular in shape. It is quite possible that Mercedes-AMG will bring the sniffed four-cylinder that it delivers in the most powerful AMG versions of the A-Class and CLA, among others, to the entry-level AMG of the new C-Class. That 2.0 delivers 421 hp and 500 Nm in the 45 S versions. The C43 of the previous C-class squeezed 390 hp and 520 Nm from a 3.0 V6. It is not inconceivable that a variant of that 2.0 finds its way to the new C-class. It remains to be seen how Mercedes-Benz will call that entry-level AMG. Mercedes-AMG may baptize the C53, although it is not inconceivable that the milder brother of the C63s will go through life as C45 or just as C43 again.

The successor to the C43 will be presented later this year. The heavier C63 and C63 S will follow after that.
