A bit of both worlds

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class will have an interior packed with displays. With the design of the interior of the new E-Class, Mercedes-Benz bridges the gap between the world of electric EQ models and that of models with combustion engines.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been running for seven years in its current form, so the years are starting to count for the model. This year, Mercedes-Benz is pulling the curtain on an all-new E-class and timing is good. After all, BMW is also releasing a new generation 5-series this year. The new E-Class will keep pace with the C and S-Class with its new exterior design. But exactly what the car will look like, the Germans will keep it a secret for a while. Mercedes-Benz does highlight the interior of the new E-class, complete with MBUX Superscreen instead of MBUX Hyperscreen.
MBUX Superscreen
Mercedes-Benz is taking a striking direction with the design of the interior of the E-Class. Yes, it shows strong similarities with that of other Mercedes-Benz models, but strikingly much with that of the highly positioned fully electric EQ models. Cars such as the EQE, EQS and their SUV versions are available with the MBUX Hyperscreen, which has three displays, one of which is located directly behind the steering wheel and serves as an instrument panel. The remaining two displays are located in the center console and directly in front of the co-driver. The system is optional in the EQEs and with MBUX Hyperscreen things look completely different than in the versions without. The hyperscreen is not available in the C and S class, so in those cars you always have a vertically oriented infotainment screen and a more or less loosely placed set of instruments behind the steering wheel. The photos of the interior of the new E-Class do not show the MBUX Hyperscreen, but the MBUX Superscreen. It consists of a screen in the center console and an optional one for the co-driver and, as in the C and S-class, includes a digital instrument panel without a roof that optically distances itself from the other two screens. So a bit of both worlds.
The dashboard of the EQE SUV looks really different.
There is no room in the dashboard of the new E-class for round ventilation grilles such as those found in the C-class, EQE and EQS. We see curved outflow openings on both sides of the dashboard that optically overflow into a horizontal line in the dashboard. Another interesting difference from the EQE’s cockpit: the touch-sensitive buttons for controlling things like volume and hazard lights move from the armrest in the center tunnel to the center console. Like the rest of the dashboard and the doors, the MBUX Superscreen is framed with ambient lighting. Certain parts of the decorative lighting react to the music or media that is playing. Mercedes-Benz dubs this mood lighting the E-Class Active Ambient Lightning system.
TikTok
No doubt you’ve already set your eyes on the small bump in the center of the dashboard that you don’t find in cars like the C, EQE, EQS or S-class. This is a camera that allows you, among other things selfies can create and record videos. The proof of how deep social media has sunk its claws into our doings. Depending on the market, the Mercedes-Benz even comes with a real TikTok app. Fear not: you can only use the camera when E-class is stationary. It should therefore be possible to attend a meeting digitally. By the way, this camera is not standard. Videos can be viewed on the screen right in front of the co-driver. Among other things, there is a camera that monitors whether the driver is looking at the co-driver’s screen. If so, the software can dim the screen brightness. The co-driver can still follow what is happening on the screen. If no one is sitting in the co-driver’s seat, the screen only shows a decorative image.
Really: TikTok in the E class.
Mercedes-Benz supplies, among other things, a ‘4D’ audio system from Burmeister with 17 loudspeakers and with four so-called exciters in in the front seats that should ensure that you also experience the sound with your body. Mercedes-Benz promises, among other things, an extensive range of applications, including – yes – video game Angry Birds. More tangible indulgence comes optionally in the form of Thermotronic climate control with electronically controlled ventilation grilles.
Later this year, Mercedes-Benz will release all information and the appearance of the new E-class. In addition to an E-class Limousine, there will also be an E-class Estate. The coupé and convertible flavors do not return, but merge together with the coupé and convertible versions of the C-class into one model, just like before.
