Mercedes-Benz is working on a major EV offensive in which SUVs account for about half the electro-gun. However, it also comes with a new SUV that will also be available with petrol engines. It concerns the all-new GLC.
When we talk about the current generation GLC class, we are actually talking about two and to some extent even three different models. Mercedes-Benz does not only supply the conventional GLC, but also a GLC Coupé. In addition, the fully electric EQC is in fact a GLC with its own body and an electric powertrain. The current GLC was presented in 2015 as the successor to the more angular and a little 15 centimeters shorter GLK class. That means that the GLC and GLC Coupé, facelifted in 2019, have been with us for many years now, so it won’t be long before you find the new GLC visible in these spy photos at the dealers.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLC is a size bigger than the current model, but does not suddenly creep very close to the GLE. We aim for it to rely heavily on the technology of the new C-class. The latter is available at an additional cost with rear-wheel steering, which we also see in action on these spy plates of the GLC (photo 10 and below).
Mercedes-Benz GLC
We expect the new GLC on the market in the first half of next year. In addition to petrol and diesel engines, count on various plug-in hybrid variants. Of course there will also be fierce AMG versions, but those will be different machines than you may be used to. Just like the new AMG versions of the C-class yet to be launched, these are purely four-cylinder in the GLC. Yes, the ’63’ models – if they are still going to be called that – will also get a fiercely worked-up four-cylinder.
