The next generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-class will be in the spotlight at the official unveiling in September. Still, the new top limousine can already be seen for the most part thanks to our attentive spy photographer.
Almost no week has passed before the new Mercedes-Benz S-class pops up in tests. Earlier this week, we got a closer look at the car thanks to an attentive Techzle reader, but now there’s even more of the car to see. Mercedes-Benz no longer sees the need to completely pack the car with camouflage material.
As can be clearly seen, the S-class remains largely true to the lines we know of the current type. The nose and butt of the new S-class show the biggest changes. The front is a bit sharper in shape with slightly flatter headlights on both sides of the still quite large grille. At the rear, the layer of masks masks rear lights that are quite different from before. When you think of the rear of the facelifted E-class, you get a good idea of what it will look like. Wider and flatter taillights that continue on the tailgate from now on, bring the new S in line with the majority of the existing model range.
The interior still remains well hidden under a number of dark mats, although it is already generally known how it will look. Mercedes recently showed its renewed MBUX system in a capsule with an interior that is largely transferred to the S-class. It will be a sleek and quite minimalistic whole. Mercedes places a huge touchscreen in the middle, on which the majority of the operation takes place. According to Das Haus, the new S has a whopping 27 buttons less than before. Those who dress up the S have a whole series of screens in the car: three in the back and (including the instruments) two in the front.
As usual, the S-class comes with six-cylinder, although a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a four-cylinder as a base is also not inconceivable. At the very top of the luxury offering, the S600 is planned, which will again have a V12 in the front. The AMG version, the S63, will probably get the 4.0 biturbo V8 again, it is also not excluded that AMG helps the power source with electrical support. A fully electric alternative to the S-class comes a year later in the form of the EQS. Of course, the S-class is again packed with the latest innovations in autonomous technology. Expect a car that can largely take over the driver’s duties. This will no doubt be the last time we see the new S before its unveiling. In September the time has finally come.
