The Mini model that does the least justice to its brand name will be helped to a new generation in 2023. We are of course talking about the Mini Countryman, the largest car in the Mini family that also seems to be growing a size.

Although the hatchbacks that Mini has in its delivery range are by far the most popular models of the brand, the Countryman is structurally in a good second place. With the SUV, Mini has been lifting along for years with the success that such high models often yield. Last year, Mini sold more than 80,000 Countrymans worldwide, more than 5 percent more than a year earlier. Roughly 30 percent of all Minis sold annually is a Countryman and that naturally tastes Mini for more. A new SUV will be added and that is the reason why the new Mini Countryman will soon be a size larger than the current model. This new set of photos shows off that new and bigger Countryman better than ever.

The Mini Countryman gets a smaller crossover under it: the Aceman. The Aceman will be about 4.05 meters long and although the current Countryman is still well above that with a length of 4.31 meters, Mini seems to believe that a larger Countryman can better distinguish itself from that Aceman. The new Mini Countryman seems to have a larger rear overhang, with the result that the rear side window also appears significantly larger than that of the current model. Good news for the interior and luggage space.

In general, however, Mini simply remains true to the Countryman concept. It will be a relatively angular model that will profile itself as a more modern car, especially with details. We already see some of that in this snapped test sample. Just look at the way in which the lighting is used at the front and rear. Incidentally, Mini goes back somewhat to the first generation of the model with the new Countryman. The license plate drops one floor and, just like the original Countryman, will soon be in the rear bumper instead of on the lid.

The new Countryman shares its technology with the X1 and 2-series Tourer. Count, among other things, on the arrival of two plug-in hybrid versions with power outputs of 245 hp and 326 hp. The new Countryman will probably be the first Countryman to come in a fully electric version. Technical brother BMW X1 is also available as an electric iX1 and the powertrain of that EV is probably also used by Mini. The BMW iX1 has two electric motors with a combined 313 hp and 494 Nm and, depending on the version, can travel up to 438 kilometers on a full 64.7 kWh battery.
