Stiffer, more luxurious, but above all a workhorse again
Are you planning to shop in the segment of the Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Amarok? Maybe you can also put the Mitsubishi L200 on your shortlist. That pick-up has been completely renewed.
Mitsubishi’s workhorse, which is called ‘Triton’ outside Europe and which you know as L200 in the Netherlands, has been completely renewed after about nine years. Do you think the outgoing L200 has a very brutal face? Then you will probably not get excited about the new model, because it has become quite a distinct appearance. Fun fact: for the first time in 12 years, the Mitsubishi pick-up is also available in Japan.
The new sixth-generation Mitsubishi L200 stands on a ladder frame as before, but on a completely new one. The ladder frame chassis is significantly stiffer than that of the outgoing L200, according to Mitsubishi. Despite this, according to the Japanese, it has only become marginally heavier. The body of the pick-up has become lighter. The new L200 is again available in various forms. It comes as a Single Cab, Double Cab and Club Cab.
Mitsubishi hangs a new diesel engine in the muzzle of the L200. It is a four-cylinder with a displacement of 2,442 cc and is available in various power variants. There will be a 204 hp and 470 Nm strong variant and variants that produce 184 hp and 430 Nm and 150 hp and 330 Nm. Each version can be linked to a six-speed automatic transmission or a manual gearbox and all these combinations can also be combined with two or four-wheel drive. Interesting: according to Mitsubishi, the manual gearbox uses shift-by-wire technology. There is then no physical connection between the poker and the box.
Mitsubishi speaks of a completely newly developed suspension with double wishbones, revised all-wheel drive and states that the L200 is larger than its predecessor. The brand does not state how big it is exactly. The L200 is also equipped with systems such as adaptive cruise control. Active Stability & Traction Control, Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Detection and Active Yaw Control.
L200
The L200 bloodline goes back five generations and in the 45 years that the model line has existed, Mitsubishi has sold some 5.6 million pickups worldwide in 150 countries.
The outgoing L200 was once also available as a Fiat Fullback. It was also briefly delivered in the Netherlands, but did not bring Fiat great success. The L200 was also available as a Ram 1200. That exchange party was also short-lived.
