Just in step

Nio starts its Dutch sales offensive with the ET5, ET7 and EL7. But of course it doesn’t stop there. AutoWeek can show you pictures of the new ES8, an electric SUV that could just appear on the market as EL8.
The Chinese Nio introduced itself to the world in 2016 with the introduction of an electric supercar, but the EP9 did not exactly give a good idea of what to expect. In 2017, Nio presented its first passenger car: the ES8. The electric ES8 is currently not part of the model range that Nio will sell in the Netherlands. For now we have to make do with the ET5, ET7 and EL7. The ES8 is now four years old and AutoWeek can show you the new ES8 thanks to research in the database of the Chinese Ministry of Transport and Information Technology.
The current generation ES8 clearly has a different design than the younger Nio models.
The new Nio ES8 looks completely different from the current model that Nio does sell in Norway. With its front, containing flat LED daytime running lights and the actual headlights below, the new ES8 is neatly in line with more recent models such as the ET5, ET7 and EL7. The new ES8 also neatly matches its brothers with its rear light section, which consists of a strip running across the entire width of the tailgate. The new Nio ES8 is 5.10 meters long, about 8 centimeters longer than the current model. It is, however, half a centimeter lower than the model presented in 2018, which gives the new ES8 a more stretched appearance. Perhaps more interesting is the wheelbase. At 3.07 meters, the new Nio ES8 has 7 centimeters more between the front and rear axles, which may be good news for the interior space. Just like the Nio ET7, among others, the new ES8 has various Lidar and camera sensors, of which you can see evidence on the roof and in the front screens.
The new Nio ES8 could just be called EL8 when it comes to Europe.
We can also report how powerful the electric motors are. The new ES8 has a 245 hp electric motor on the front axle, and a 407 hp one at the rear. The current ES8 has a 218 hp electric motor at the front and a 326 hp unit at the rear. In terms of power, the ES8 is going quite a bit on its windshield with its upcoming generation change.
It is quite possible that Nio will bring the ES8 to the Netherlands. If that is the case, it will probably be called Nio EL8 here. Of the three models with which Nio starts his Dutch adventure, the EL7 is the only SUV. The EL7 is called ES7 outside Europe. Nio currently also supplies the EC6 and ES6 outside Europe.
