New Nissan Qashqai ready for debut

Nissan has set a date for the final unveiling of the new Qashqai. The third generation of Qashqai will be shown to the world public on February 18. The announcement of the reveal date goes hand in hand with the arrival of a series of interesting teasers.

The current second-generation Nissan Qashqai is on its last legs, but luckily there is a completely new Qashqai in Nissan’s development rooms. The brand’s most popular model in Europe will be placed on a completely new platform for European consumers, a basis that is already used by the Rogue (the soon to be new X-Trail) in the United States. That platform brings with it a range of interesting powertrains. For example, the new Qashqai is always electrified.

Nissan is releasing an image and teaser video of the new Qashqai. Not only an uniquely designed headlight is visible on it. Nissan shows, among other things, that the model name Qashqai can now be read large under the Nissan logo on the back. The rear of the new Qashqai can already be seen on a shot of the digital instruments. The design does not deviate spectacularly from the design of the current model, although this is not surprising given the success of the current Qashqai and the general public that it should appeal to.

Nissan is equipping the new Qashqai with an e-Power powertrain, among other things. This Qashqai e-Power has a 157 hp 1.5 turbo engine with variable compression under the hood, although that petrol engine does not directly drive the wheels under any circumstances. The blown 1.5 charge provides a 2 kWh small battery pack with electricity, electrical power that feeds a 190 hp and 330 Nm strong electric motor on the front axle. Electric driving is possible, but for only one or two kilometers. The advantage of e-Power? According to Nissan, the electric motor responds just as directly to the accelerator as in a fully electric car. You do not have noticeable transitions when switching between the petrol and electric motor, such as with regular hybrids. With this e-Power drivetrain you also benefit, at least on paper, from a linear acceleration that is characteristic of an EV. Average combined consumption should be 5.3 l / 100 km, according to Nissan.

Nissan is also supplying the new Qashqai with two mild hybrid versions. There will be a 140 hp and 240 Nm strong mild-hybrid 1.3 DIG-T with a manual six-speed gearbox and a 158 hp and 260 Nm powerful variant of the same 1.3 that is available with both manual and automatic transmission. The version with Xtronic automatic transmission, a CVT one that simulates the presence of gears when the accelerator pedal is depressed more than half, is 10 Nm stronger and is optionally also available with four-wheel drive.
