The secure messaging service Signal has started rolling out a new feature that allows you to use a new number without losing your current chats. You must meet a number of requirements, otherwise it will not work. That’s how you work.
Before we can start the process, you need to make sure you meet the requirements. For example, you need two phones with two SIM cards. This concerns telephones with your old and new numbers. In addition, this only works if you keep the same phone and therefore only change numbers.
Of course you have the most recent version of Signal necessary. That applies to the app version on your smartphone, but also on desktop. Then confirm that you can send and receive messages with your current number and double check whether you really have updated all versions. Transferring will not be possible without the most recent app version.
Transfer Signal Messages
When you are well prepared, you proceed as follows. Tap on your profile picture (it’s in the top left) and go to Your registration†When using the app on iOS, you must first open account settings. Under the registration settings you will find, among other things, the options for your PIN code (a handy tool to protect your messages).
At the very bottom of the page is the option we need: Change phone number†If you tap on that and you perform the steps mentioned, you cannot undo this. Think before you start.

Now enter your old number in the first field and your new number in the second field. Select the option to confirm your choice. The button varies by platform, but often comes down to Get on or Finished†Confirm that you have entered the correct numbers. Do you still see a mistake? Then you get the chance to rectify that by adjusting a number.
Then select the option to change your number. After this you will see a series of instructions on screen, which guide you through the standard registration process.
After adjusting the number, your contacts will see a standard notification. This only applies to the people you have already started a conversation with; other contacts do not see this. If you no longer have access to your old number, it is unfortunately not possible to perform the steps.
