Apple has added a handy function to the AirPods, which prevents you from having empty ears on the way. That’s how it works!
New AirPods function
The AirPods get a new function! With iOS 26, Apple not only brings improvement to the iPhone, but the AirPods also get better. The ears are expanded with a camera remote control and sleep detection. That’s not all, because you get more reports from the AirPods from iOS 26. Apple adds a handy new function, which gives a notification when the battery of the AirPods is almost empty.
Does the charging case of your AirPods almost have to go to the charger again? Then from iOS 26 you will receive a notification on your iPhone well in advance. This way you immediately know that you have to charge the charging box, so that you do not leave the house with empty AirPods. With this new function, your AirPods will never be completely empty again, because you have to be charged exactly when they have to be charged again. We explain how these notifications use.
Switch on charging notifications
The AirPods settings are expanded in iOS 26 with charging notifications. If you enable this new function of the AirPods, you will receive a notification when the charging case is almost empty and when it is fully charged again. Have you ever left the door with empty AirPods? In that case it is advisable to call in the charging reports in iOS 26. You do that as follows:
- Remove the AirPods from the box;
- Open ‘settings’ on your iPhone;
- Tap ‘AirPods’ at the top of the settings;
- Scroll down and open ‘battery’;
- Turn on the switch ‘charging notifications’.
Have you enabled the charging notifications? Then you will now receive standard notifications when it is time to put the AirPods on the charger. When the charging case is fully charged, you will also receive a notification, so that the AirPods are not unnecessarily long on the current. The new function of the AirPods is a hugely handy addition, especially if the battery of the charging case is outdated and empties faster.
More new functions for the AirPods
With the largest software update of the year for the iPhone, Apple traditionally also brings new functions to the AirPods. In addition to the charging notifications, camera remote control and sleep detection, the AirPods will have more improvements. For example, audio recordings are recorded in a higher quality and the ears are supported for CarPlay. From iOS 26, the AirPods automatically connect with the operating system of the car, so that you can also listen to music on the way.
Apple releases iOS 26 in September, which month are all important software updates available to users. Unfortunately, not all AirPods get these new functions, because for certain improvements an H2 chip is required. Only the newest AirPods have this chip.
