New on Disney+: April’s best series and movies

Of course Disney+ contains all the well-known classics from the world-famous film studio. The Dropout

The Dropout tells the true story of the rise and fall of the controversial company Theranus. Elizabeth Holmes decides to drop out of college because she wants to put all the time into her new venture. The nineteen-year-old woman says she has discovered a gap in the market and knows how to bind various investors. Theranus is developing a revolutionary product with which citizens can test their own blood.

Hundreds of tests would be possible with one drop. In this way, people are said to be able to detect diseases early. Unfortunately, that turns out to be a myth, because the test results are rather unreliable. Then Elizabeth finds herself in a major fraud case as investors pour hundreds of millions into her company. In addition, she put people at risk with flawed test results. This promising series can be seen from 20 April.

Death on the Nile

although Death on the Nile Currently still in various Dutch cinemas, the film can also be seen on Disney+. The story is based on the 1937 novel of the same name. Sketchbook

Every Disney animated film starts at the drawing board. The six-part docuseries Sketchbook shows how artists experience this intimate process. How did the first sketches of iconic characters such as Simba (Lion King) and Mirabel (Encanto) come about? Each episode features a different Disney artist. They show how they translate the characters to the paper and also give the viewer tips. Everyone has their own style. For example, one person hardly makes any mistakes, while the other constantly reaches for the eraser. Also find out how the artists found their way to the Disney studio. Sketchbook can be seen from April 27.

Mayans MC (seasons 1 to 3)

Mayan’s MC is a spin-off of the popular Sons of Anarchy series. From April 27, subscribers can admire the first three seasons. The story begins several years after the Sons of Anarchy storyline is completed. The Mayans are a notorious motorcycle club that finds itself at odds with various other organizations, such as dangerous drug cartels and rival motorcycle gangs.

The main character Ezekiel is a so-called ‘prospect’ and does his best to become a full member. To do this, he has to do all kinds of jobs for full-fledged motorcycle club members. A nice side effect is that there is a role for various well-known Sons of Anarchy faces. A fourth season is also on the way, although a Disney+ release date has not yet been announced.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody can recently be admired on Netflix, but from April 1, Disney + subscribers can also stream this well-known music film. As the name suggests, Bohemian Rhapsody zooms in on Queen’s oeuvre. Of course, special attention is paid to Freddie Mercury. The well-known actor Rami Malek takes on the role of the charismatic rock singer and does so very credibly.

The film provides a picture of the writing process and contract negotiations, among other things. In addition, the film also deals with the notorious private parties of the band and the debilitating disease (AIDS) with which Mercury was struggling. Finally, viewers enjoy a convincing rendition of the well-known Live Aid concert.

9-1-1: Lone Star (season 3)

Owen Strand is the only firefighter from his station to survive the terrorist attack on 9/11. He manages to breathe new life into the barracks. A short time later, he decides to move from New York to Austin with his son. Owen goes back to work as a firefighter there. The man from Manhattan sees it as his job to save people’s lives. Unfortunately, he struggles to make a living in his new hometown.

In the third season, a dangerous ice storm is heading for Austin. As a result, several people are in distress. Owen and his colleagues embark on several rescue missions across the city. The brand new episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star will be available on Disney+ from April 6.
