The Kia Ceed gets new petrol engines. The 1.4 T-GDI will be replaced by a 1.5 T-GDI and the entire Ceed family will receive a brand new 1.0 T-GDI. The magic word for both power sources: mild hybrid.
The Hyundai i30 underwent a facelift earlier this year and the car was not only addressed optically. The technical brother Kia Ceed is not yet under the knife, but is already benefiting from the new engines that Hyundai introduced in the i30 during the facelift. This means that the 1.4 T-GDI makes way for a new 1.5 T-GDI and that the 1.0 T-GDI is replaced by a brand-new 1.0 T-GDI.
The existing 120 hp 1.0 will be joined by completely new 1.0 T-GDI, which, just like before, delivers 120 hp. The 172 Nm delivering 1.0 T-GDI, however, is linked to a 48v mild hybrid system. The power source is linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and will be included in the price list of the Ceed Hatchback, Sportswagon and XCeed. The ProCeed will not get it. The 1.0 without MHEV technology remains available in combination with a manual six-speed gearbox. The Ceed Hatchback sprints to 100 km / h in 11.2 seconds with the new 1.0. The XCeed is a lot faster with this new powertrain. The high-legged member of the Ceed family needs only 9.2 counts for a 0-100 sprint with 1.0 T-GDI MHEV.
Kia Ceed
The 140 hp 1.4 T-GDI is replaced by a new 160 hp and 253 Nm strong 1.5 T-GDI. This petrol engine is available both with and without mild hybrid technology. The version without mild hybrid technology is available with a manual six-speed gearbox and with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The variant with mild hybrid technology is linked to the seven-speed automatic transmission in the Ceed Hatchback, Ceed Sportswagon and ProCeed. In the XCeed, however, this aggregate is linked to Hyundai’s smart iMT gearbox, a manual gearbox that disengages automatically as soon as you let go of the accelerator. The 136 hp 1.6 CRDi and the 204 hp 1.6 T-GDI (Ceed and Proceed), just like the plug-in hybrid versions of the Sportswagon and XCeed, remain available.
Prices of the Kia Ceed with the new powertrains will be released later.
