New Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

Porsche has presented a new and first cup racer of the 911. The racing car, based on the current 992 generation of the Porsche 911, bears the name 911 GT3 Cup and is more likely to sniff the outside world than a regular GT3 variant.

The Porsche 911 is already available in a diverse range of engine variants, but the hard-wearing GT3 and GT3 RS versions are still in Porsche’s development centers. Yet there is already a new 911 GT3 Cup, a non-street-legal race car that will be seen in action from next year during the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and the national Porsche Carrera Cups.

The 911 GT3 Cup, like the previous 911 GT3 Cup, has a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine in the rear. In the new 911 GT3 Cup, however, that machine does not deliver 485 hp, but 510 hp and 470 Nm. The rev limiter only comes into effect at 8,750 rpm. The six-cylinder is mated to a six-speed sequential automatic transmission with a dog-leg layout. The most commonly used gears, the two and three, are right opposite each other.

The 911 GT3 Cup includes dry sump lubrication. This means that the car does not have a regular crankcase, but an external oil tank. The lack of a conventional crankcase means, among other things, that the engine can be hung lower in the car. This in turn has a positive effect on the center of gravity, which is therefore much lower. Depending on where the 911 GT3 Cup has to make its rounds, the car has one of three available exhaust systems on board. Good news for the racing teams: the powertrain maintenance costs should be lower than the previous 911 GT3 Cup. For example, the engine requires an inspection round after about 100 hours of track time, while the box requires a moment of attention after 60 hours. Major maintenance is required after 120 racing hours.

The spoiler work of the new 911 GT3 Cup is of course quite exuberant. The racer has the widebody body of the 911 Turbos, which means that the rear, at 1.9 meters wide, is almost 3 centimeters wider than that of the previous 911 GT3 Cup. The 911 GT3 Cup has also been expanded for. In front of the rear wheel arches we observe large air intakes and Porsche gives the 911 GT3 Cup, among other things, a powerful rear wing that has eleven positions. Despite the fact that 70 percent of the body of the 911 GT3 Cup is made of aluminum (previous model: 30 percent), the 911 GT3 Cup is 35 kilos heavier than its predecessor. According to Porsche, this is due to additional safety points.

Delivery of the 911 GT3 Cup will start in February 2021. The starting price of the crack nose is set at € 225,000. Please note, this does not include taxes.
