More SUV than ever
More and more car manufacturers are putting in segments whose popularity a line through years of used model names. Ford already stopped the Mondeo in Europe and the Fiesta does not seem to have a long life either. Renault already cut the Talisman from its portfolio in Europe, but remarkably enough, the Espace remains alive. There is a completely new generation of it!
Renault announces that it will draw the curtain on a completely new generation of the Espace in the spring. This means that the current fifth generation Renault Espace presented in Paris in 2014 will simply get a successor. Not surprisingly, the new sixth-generation Renault Espace will no longer be an MPV like the model that has been for decades.
The new Renault Espace will be an SUV with five or seven seats. That’s right, an SUV. But that won’t really surprise anyone either. The current generation Renault Espace, which has not been delivered in the Netherlands since 2021, was already peppered with crossover-like influences by Renault. However, the new Renault Espace seems to be more SUV than ever.
This spring, Renault will unveil the new Espace. The fact that the new Espace will appear in 2023 is related to the fact that the model name Espace has existed for forty years this year. Although the first generation of the Espace came on the market in 1984, the brand already conjured up the Espace Concept in 1983. In any case, the new Espace promises to be a space giant again. Renault speaks of a ‘top class model that is above all comfortable and innovative’.
The new Renault Espace will be on the CMF-CD platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. This is not a specific EV platform such as the CMF-EV platform on which Renault will house the Mégane E-Tech Electric and the production version of the Scénic Vision from 2024. The CMF-CD base is also used by the outgoing Espace and by cars such as the Mégane, Kadjar, Scénic and Talisman. Will there not be an electric version? Who knows. We also find the platform under the Renault Kangoo and there is an electric version of it. The announcement of the new Renault Espace goes hand in hand with an image where it has made the last E of model name Espace copper-colored. Renault undoubtedly refers to electric power, although it remains to be seen whether there will also be an electric version.
Since the launch of the first generation Renault Espace in 1984, more than 41,000 units have been registered in our country. The model had its absolute peak year in 2004, when almost 4,500 copies found a Dutch owner.
