Rolls-Royce is in no hurry. After the generation change of the Phantom and the introduction of the Cullinan, the brand is preparing for the arrival of a completely new generation of the Ghost. Those ‘small’ Rolls, everything is relative, can now be seen in normal and extended form
The current Ghost generation is on its last legs. The model was presented in 2009, making the ‘Baby Rolls’ 11 years old this year. The first spy photos of the new Ghost surfaced last year and the new sedan is also showing up today. For the first time also as a longer EWB (photos 7, 8 and 9). The EWB variant can be recognized in these photos by the clearly longer rear doors, complete with a wider rear side window.
Where the current generation Ghost uses a thoroughly decrepit platform from the previous generation of the BMW 7 series, this new Ghost will be more self-styled. While the Ghost will likely be available again with a BMW-derived V12, the base of the new model will be derived from the platform that Rolls-Royce developed for the new Phantom presented in 2017. Although the body is also completely redone, Ghost features have clearly remained intact. The new Ghost also gets a long nose and a slightly ‘hanging’ rear at the rear. Incidentally, count on the return of the ‘wrong’ folding rear doors. What has not changed either: just like the outgoing Ghost, there is also a variant with an extended wheelbase from its successor. The regular Ghost is a 5.4 meter long sedan with a 3.3 meter wheelbase. There is no less than 4.47 meters between the front and rear axles of the 5.57-meter Extended Wheelbase variant (EWB). This soon-to-be-new Ghost may go over that by a few centimeters. We expect more concrete Ghost news later this year.
