New service warns parkers against a scan car

In many Dutch cities, parking attendants drive around in scan cars to catch defaulters. An Amsterdam start-up is now making it a lot more difficult for parking attendants with a new service.

With the ‘Parking Alarm’, users receive a notification by text message as soon as a parking attendant with his scan car drives past the parked car. The service uses dash cams or security cameras that are linked to a specific network. As a user you therefore need such equipment and it must therefore be connected to the internet. The new system recognizes the cars of the parking attendants. As soon as ‘forgetful’ users receive a text message, they have five minutes to pay for parking via a parking app.

The founders say according to it AD that Parking Alarm Clock recognizes 95 percent of the scan cars passing by. The user pays € 1.49 per report, but as soon as it is a false alarm, no money is collected. The new service is currently being tested extensively, but is already offered in ten cities. Administrators in cities such as Amsterdam, Diemen, Leiden, Utrecht and Rotterdam can therefore already get started. However, please note: as soon as it gets dark, the Parking Alarm Clock does not (yet) work, because the system will then no longer recognize the scan cars.
