New sporty Skoda is called Afriq

Skoda releases a sketch and the name of a very intense new model. The Czechs will soon be pulling the curtain on the Afriq, a heavily spoilered colossus that seems to feel especially at home on rally courses.

For the eighth year in a row, a group of students from the Skoda Academy is working on a unique model that usually releases all the brakes. Last year we were introduced to a cut-open Speedster variant based on the Scala. That car was given the name Slavia, which is now stuck on a new sedan from Skoda. The student project that Skoda presents this time is based on the Kamiq, although visually little of that car remains.

The new creation listens to the name Afriq and that is striking. Earlier, Skoda seemed to hint at the model name Azubi. The radically renovated and heavily covered-up Kamiq is so named because Skoda is responsible for the activities in North Africa within the Volkswagen Group. The one-off will be 4.36 meters long and, according to Skoda, will have a wheelbase of 2.65 meters. That is the first and only technical information that Skoda releases of the Afriq. Although the wheelbase of the Afriq is the same as that of the Kamiq on which it is based, its car length is 12 centimeters longer. This difference in length is most likely due to the exuberant spoiler work that the Afriq is fitted with.

It is not yet known when Skoda will present the Afriq in its entirety. Previous creations by students of the Skoda Academy were, in addition to the aforementioned Slavia, the Citijet, the Funstar, the Atero, the Element, the Sunroq and the Mountiaq.
