Yesterday Subaru launched the teaser campaign for the arrival of the new BRZ. Subaru did not release more than a wheel and a piece of sill, but thanks to the social channels there is more of the new sports coupe to see!
Subaru gave visitors to the Subaru Tecnica International Subifest, held in Arizona, a quick preview of the new BRZ, luckily for us there by visitors what snapshots from the new BRZ!
With the new BRZ, Subaru remains faithful to the concept of the original, which means that the new BRZ will also become a relatively compact coupé. The roofline descends quite sharply just after the windshield and then ends in a short sedan lid. The windows are very similar to those of the first BRZ, which has now been discontinued, although the straight shoulder line in front of the rear side window is longer and rises sharper. Also striking is the cooling slot that Subaru has made in the front screen. A small spoiler appears to be integrated in the tailgate. Like the current model, the new BRZ was also jointly developed by Subaru and Toyota. In time, Toyota will also come up with a successor to the current GT86.
Nothing is officially known yet about the technology of the new Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86, although the pair will of course be rear-wheel drive again. Whether the atmospheric 2.0 should make way for a turbo engine is therefore still a mystery. It is even possible that the new BRZ and GT86 will be under the skin of a further development of the current platform, but that too is nothing more than pure speculation. Everything will become clear this autumn, as the new BRZ will be presented quite soon!
The Netherlands
In the Netherlands, only 38 Subaru’s BRZ have been sold since the launch of the BRZ in 2012. In the first sales year, 22 copies were registered, in 2014 and 2015 only 8 and 7 respectively. In 2016, the last BRZ was registered in our country.
