More Suzuki than Toyota

Suzuki has pulled the curtain on an all-new Grand Vitara. You may already know the car in slightly modified form. The new Suzuki Grand Vitara is the brother of a Toyota crossover.
The cooperation between Toyota and Suzuki is proving to be a very fruitful one. In Europe you will undoubtedly know the Suzuki Swace and the Across, cars that are successively a Toyota Corolla and RAV4 with modified design details. Toyota, in turn, borrows Suzuki’s Baleno for the Starlet and Glanza. We recently became acquainted with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, a new mild-hybrid and hybrid compact crossover of which there is now a Suzuki variant: the new Grand Vitara. To start with the bad news: for now there are no plans to sell the Grand Vitara in Europe.
Suzuki Grand Vitara
The Suzuki Grand Vitara is to a lesser extent a Toyota-with-different-badges than the aforementioned Swace and Across. In fact, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is actually more of a Suzuki Grand Vitara. The basis of the duo was developed by Suzuki. Under the skin you will find the Global C platform, the basis that you also find under the S-Cross and Vitara.
Suzuki Grand Vitara
The fact that Suzuki has developed the two in the base does not mean that there is no Toyota technology to be found. Like the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Grand Vitara will receive a 103 hp 12v mild-hybrid 1.5 from Suzuki, but also a hybrid powertrain from Toyota. The latter consists of a 92 hp 1.5 and an 80 hp electric motor, good for a system power of 116 hp. In the Netherlands you know the hybrid hardware of the Yaris Hybrid and Yaris Cross Hybrid.
Shortly before Toyota presented the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Suzuki introduced the new Brezza. The new Brezza is the successor to the Vitara Brezza. The Vitara Brezza is in fact a shorter variant of the Vitara known to us. That Vitara Brezza also had a Toyota brother. It’s simply called Urban Cruiser.
