‘The most economical in its class’

During the Japan Mobility Show, Suzuki previews the all-new Swift. We were able to show you the preview of the new Suzuki Swift before, but now we also have a picture of the rear and the interior.
At the beginning of October, Suzuki released the first image of the Suzuki Swift Concept. Why is it so relevant? It is a very concrete preview of the new Suzuki Swift. You can also ignore the ‘Concept’ part of the name. We hardly see any conceptual fuss on the show car. Earlier in October, images of the rear of the Swift Concept and the interior circulated on the internet. They were of questionable quality and we could not verify whether they were actually from the Swift. Now Suzuki itself has released more images of the Swift Concept.
Suzuki Swift
The new Suzuki Swift is clearly a Swift, although everything is different. The front is striking. The hood is optically quite high, the front screens and headlights are located one floor lower. The new Swift gets a smaller grille and a fold runs across the flank that connects to the edge of the hood. At the rear, the Swift Concept provides fewer surprises. The design is familiar, but the content is slightly different. For example, the rear bumper runs slightly upwards towards the center at the bottom of the lamps. The rear lights have a striking LED signature and the bumper is more angular than that of the current Swift.
Just like the exterior of the Suzuki Swift Concept, the interior is also ready to go into production without any changes. Suzuki leaves the round center ventilation grilles and the round tubes that house the instruments of the current Swift for what they are and opts for a sleeker, more mature design. On top of the dashboard is a large infotainment screen by Swift standards with touch-sensitive shortcut keys at the bottom. The Swift will not have a digital clock shop. We see a rev counter surrounded by a chrome edge, a fairly conventional speedometer and in the middle the display of the on-board computer.

The transmission selector lever protrudes from the center tunnel. That is clearly not a gear lever from a manual gearbox and that is not surprising. According to Suzuki, the Swift Concept has a CVT. On the infotainment screen we read a consumption of 1:27.1. That is undoubtedly a hint at the Swift’s powertrain. The combination of a CVT and that very favorable use therefore indicates the presence of a hybrid drivetrain. According to Suzuki, it is even ‘the most economical car in its class’. Should the Toyota Yaris Hybrid be concerned?
