The new Toyota Mirai will arrive at Dutch dealers at the beginning of 2021. Toyota will announce more about the hydrogen car in the run-up to the market launch.
With the second generation of the Toyota Mirai, the Japanese hope to get a wider audience for the hydrogen car. Among other things, a sharper and less controversial appearance must be convinced, but the specifications are also considerably better than before. It was already known that the Mirai now has a range of around 650 km, 30 percent more than the previous one. In total, three tanks offer space for 5.6 kilos of hydrogen. The power density is now 5.4 kW per liter, according to Toyota. We now also know that the electric motor in the Mirai releases 174 hp power on the rear wheels.
The new Mirai has to drive clearly better than its predecessor, partly because Toyota has managed to reduce the weight of the fuel cell and related components. The car is also stiffer than before, including a new multi-link suspension at the front and rear and thicker anti-roll bars. The Mirai has also become 6.5 cm lower and 14 cm longer. The extra length is mainly due to the wheelbase, which grew by 14 cm. In total, the Mirai extends over just under 4.78 meters. The fact that the car is lower and longer than before should further contribute to driving characteristics that, according to Toyota, are ‘comparable to those of a traditional petrol car with the front engine’. There is also now a 50:50 weight distribution. Finally, the Mirai sits on 19 or 20-inch wheels.
The new Mirai will be at dealerships in March 2021 from at least € 65,995. Prefer business driving? In 2021, you pay a 12 percent addition for the hydrogen car. Curious about our first experiences with the Mirai, be sure to read Techzle 50, which is in the shops from today!
