Only as a Variant

The new Volkswagen Passat will make its appearance next year and has now been spotted in public for the second time. You are probably looking at the last Passat ever, because at the same time as this generation there is already an electric alternative that eventually takes over completely.
Although the conventional middle class is rapidly thinning with the disappearance of traditionally styled cars such as the Ford Mondeo and Opel Insignia, the Volkswagen Passat is just going for another round. That just doesn’t happen without saying goodbye to the Passat sedan, because in our part of the world it does. The new Volkswagen Passat will only be on the market as a Variant. It is that car that has now appeared in the picture for the second time.
Although Volkswagen has done a great job in terms of camouflage, it is clear that we are dealing with a completely new generation here. The new Volkswagen Passat gets a different window line, which seems to run very slightly down just behind the A-pillar before it bends up again, but also with a slightly more oblique profile at the height of the D-pillar. In addition, the butt of the new Passat Variant looks a bit sturdier than the current one. All in all, it looks like it’s going to be a big boy, just like his brother being built side-by-side with the Passat; the new Skoda Superb.

At the front, the camouflage obscures a probably quite Golf-like front with rather low headlamps and a minimal grille. At the back you can count on a stripe of LED lighting tied together by taillights that are also a lot thinner in shape than is currently the case. Our illustrator already sketched the new Volkswagen Passat (photo above), which already gives a nice picture of the direction in which the Passat is evolving.
As mentioned, the new Volkswagen Passat only comes as a Variant and that is simply because there is an electric sedan alternative. That is the production version of the Volkswagen ID Aero, the first low and stretched model in the ID series. The new Volkswagen Passat is for those who prefer to continue with a more traditional drive and who would like a bucket of space in the back. Will the electrification boat completely pass the Passat? Nope, count on the new Volkswagen Passat coming on the market as a mild-hybrid and as a plug-in hybrid. Finally, the sporty driver can cautiously hope for a potent top version, possibly again with 4Motion all-wheel drive, because we probably don’t see the new Passat here on the Nürburgring without good reason.
