Also as a plug-in hybrid eHybrid
The current Volkswagen Tiguan has been running for almost eight years, which means that the SUV will not have a very long life. You don’t have to wait long for a new Tiguan, because Volkswagen already shows the third generation of its successful SUV in a sleek sticker sheet!
The current Volkswagen Tiguan was unveiled in September 2015, which means that the model will be eight years old later this year. Volkswagen is certainly not doing bad business with the Tiguan, so of course there will be a completely new Tiguan soon. We have already been able to show you the new Volkswagen Tiguan in test suit several times and now Volkswagen is showing the SUV itself, this time wrapped in a print that makes many a QR code uncertain.
Just like the next generation of the Volkswagen Passat, the new Tiguan will not receive a completely new platform. In the case of the Tiguan, that means Volkswagen is parking the SUV on the revised version of the MQB A2 platform used by the current model. That base listens to the name MQB Evo and includes cars such as the Volkswagen Golf, Seat Leon and Skoda Octavia.
According to new information released by Volkswagen, the Tiguan will retain its wheelbase of 2.68 meters, although the SUV will grow in length by a few centimeters. Although the new Tiguan is hardly larger than the model you already know, the luggage space is considerably larger. In the new Volkswagen Tiguan you have to be able to store 648 liters of stuff. The luggage space of the current version remains at 615 liters.
The new Tiguan has a significantly rounder design than the second generation of the SUV, which means that some design influences from Volkswagen’s ID world seem to seep through to the Tiguan. The SUV gets HD Matrix LED headlights and an LED bar running across the entire width of the bottom. The new Tiguan – just like the ID7 and probably the facelifted Golf – will have an infotainment screen of up to 15 inches, although lower-positioned versions will receive a copy with a diagonal of 12.9 inches. Striking: just with the electric ID models, the selector lever moves from the automatic transmission to the steering column. Versions with a manual transmission are no longer available.
Volkswagen is not yet saying anything about the powertrains of the new Tiguan. In any case, count on the arrival of one or more plug-in hybrid eHybrid engine versions and bet on a series of mild hybrid eTSI petrol versions and a set of TDI diesel machines. According to Volkswagen, there will in any case be a plug-in version with an electric range of up to 100 kilometers. All plug-ins must be able to load faster than the current versions.
The new Volkswagen Tiguan will be unveiled this year and will be on the market in early 2024.
