Wiesmann’s Project Thunderball: electric bon vivant

Wiesmann’s Project Thunderball: electric bon vivant

You probably know the small German car maker Wiesmann from the roadsters that are somewhat retro-designed and that use BMW technology. In the past, Wiesmann used, among other things, six, eight and even ten cylinders from his compatriot, but with the new model that Wiesmann is now announcing, the manufacturer is taking a completely different path.

In 2019, Wiesmann reported that it would actually come back with a new model. The small manufacturer went bankrupt in 2013, but was resuscitated in 2016 by two Englishmen. Wiesmann announced the arrival of a new model that for the time being goes through life under the working title Project Gecko. Project Gecko would get an eight-cylinder BMW and with that Wiesmann opts for a well-known road. Earlier models of the brand also had BMW machines under the hood. Wiesmann now announces a model that does everything differently.

Wiesmann releases a short teaser video and two photos showing a new model of the brand. With its round binoculars and classic-looking front, the newcomer is immediately recognizable as a Wiesmann car, but there is a big difference. At the bottom of the rear we see no exhaust tailpipes and that, together with the lack of engine noise in the video, makes us suspect that Wiesman gives his new model an all-electric powertrain. Wiesmann describes his newcomer, who carries the working title Project Thunderball, as a ‘sports car for the modern era’. An electric Wiesmann, who would have thought!
