The EV6 is an important model for Kia. The extravagant EV6 is the brand’s first car developed primarily as an electric model and is therefore Kia’s first member of the EV model line. The EV6 has been on the Dutch market since mid-2021 and has since won the Car of the Year and Electric Car of the Year titles. So it’s time to find out how the electric Kia is doing on the market so far.
2021 was not a great year for several reasons, not even in the car world. The pandemic and the resulting shortage of computer chips resulted in poor availability of cars and long delivery times. Although Kia narrowly missed the title ‘most popular brand in the Netherlands’, the brand managed to hold the best-selling car in our country with the Niro. Almost 11,000 copies were sold. Kia also did good business with the Picanto, with a total of almost 8,000 copies sold, Kia’s entry-level model finished in fourth position. Then the question of questions: how does the Kia EV6 perform between those popular brothers and sisters?
In the half year of 2021 in which the Kia EV6 was available, 1,644 copies of the electric car were registered. This made the EV6 more popular than the Proceed, Rio, Sorento, Soul, Sportage, and Xceed last year, but he had to tolerate the Stonic and Ceed. In January and February this year, a total of about 290 Kia’s EV6 were registered, bringing the total number of registered copies in the Netherlands to about 1,930.
Kia supplies the EV6 in various configurations. For example, the car is available with a 58 kWh battery and 77.4 kWh of electric lung capacity. The EV6 with the smallest battery pack is always rear-wheel drive and 170 hp strong. The versions with 77.4 kWh battery are available with both rear and four-wheel drive and are then successively 229 hp and 325 hp powerful. The rear-wheel drive Kia EV6 with the largest battery pack is by far the most popular flavor in the Netherlands. About half of all versions registered in the Netherlands is an EV6 in that configuration. The range of the most popular EV6 variant is between 504 and 528 kilometers depending on the chosen version. In about 10 to 15 percent of the cases, the Dutch EV6 customer opts for a copy with the 58 kWh battery. With its tax value of €44,165, the Air version is eligible for the SEPP purchase subsidy. The remaining 35-40 percent of the Kia’s EV6 is equipped with four-wheel drive and the 77.4 kWh battery.
As far as colors are concerned, Kia has put together an extensive palette for the EV6, including the striking colors Yacht Blue, Runway Red and Deep Forest. You can already feel it coming: those are not the most popular colors. In the Netherlands we mainly choose Aurora Black Pearl and Snow White Pearl. Interstellar Gray follows closely behind. It is striking, because Runway Red is the only color for which Kia does not charge an additional €795.
At the end of this year, Kia will launch the EV6 GT in the Netherlands, a no less than 584 hp strong four-wheel drive sporty variant that shoots from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. We are curious whether we will ever find our way to the showrooms for the fastest Kia in the Netherlands.
